Google's Article guidance asks for every author shown on the page, with only the name in author.name and a link to a page that uniquely identifies the author. Its ProfilePage documentation describes author pages: a mainEntity that is a Person or Organization with a name, and recommended sameAs, image and identifier. Google asks that images be real, not placeholders.
Mistakes to avoid
- Invented authors or borrowed photos. They are fake content and break trust.
- Job titles inside
name; usejobTitle. - Author pages with no link to the person's articles.
Questions
Should a team byline be a Person?
No. A team or desk is an Organization. Use Person only for a named individual.
Do author pages need ProfilePage markup?
It is optional. It describes the page clearly when the page is about one person.
