Schema.org defines a review as "A review of an item - for example, of a restaurant, movie, or store." Google lists Organization, LocalBusiness and Game among the item types for review snippets, and requires an author and a rating. Its rules exclude self-serving reviews on Organization markup and, since July 2026, say not to include fake or undisclosed incentivized reviews in pages or markup. An independent publisher reviewing a licensed brand can use Review markup when the review is real, visible and its commercial links are disclosed. See review and rating structured data.
Mistakes to avoid
- AggregateRating on a brand's own Organization node.
- An AggregateRating with no ratingCount or reviewCount.
- Nesting a review and also setting itemReviewed.
- Ratings in markup that are not on the page.
Questions
Can an operator mark up reviews from its own players?
Not for stars on its own Organization markup. Google treats reviews a business controls about itself as self-serving.
Are game reviews allowed?
Game is a supported item type. The same rules on authors, visibility and incentives apply.
