FAQPage for Casino and Sportsbook Sites
FAQ rich results are gone from Google Search. FAQPage is still valid Schema.org vocabulary, so the question for casino and sportsbook sites is no longer how to win FAQ snippets but whether the markup still earns its place.
What happened to FAQ rich results
For several years, FAQPage markup could expand a search result with questions and answers. Gambling sites used it heavily on bonus, payment and help pages. Google narrowed the feature in two steps:
- August 2023. Google announced the change on August 8 and rolled it out over the following week; on September 14, 2023 it updated its FAQ documentation "to state that the feature is only shown for well-known, authoritative government and health websites." Casino and sportsbook sites lost FAQ snippets from that point.
- May 2026. Google's updates log announced that the feature "will no longer appear in Google Search starting May 7, 2026". On June 15, 2026 it removed the documentation, noting that "The FAQ rich result feature is no longer shown in Google Search results".
The full sequence, with the other features Google retired, is in Google structured data changes, 2023 to 2026.
What FAQPage still is
FAQPage is part of the Schema.org vocabulary, listed as a more specific type of WebPage. Retiring a Google feature does not remove a type from Schema.org, and valid FAQPage markup does not cause an error. Our workbench adds a note, not a warning, when it sees FAQPage.
What changed is the payoff. Without a Google feature, FAQPage is a description of the page and nothing more. That can still be useful for keeping a page's questions machine-readable, but it no longer justifies writing questions for the sake of markup.
Keep, fix or remove
| Situation | Decision |
|---|---|
| Questions and answers are visible and answer real reader questions | Keep. It is accurate and costs little. |
| Markup holds questions that are not on the page | Remove. Google's guidelines forbid marking up content that is not visible. |
| The same FAQ block is copied on hundreds of pages | Remove from templates; keep it on the one page where it belongs. |
| Answers promote offers, odds or "free" bonuses | Rewrite the page. Promotional answers create gambling advertising risks in every market. |
| A plugin adds FAQPage to every post by default | Turn it off and add markup only where a real FAQ exists. |

}Writing help-page FAQs on a gambling site
The best FAQs on casino and sportsbook sites are boring in a useful way. They answer the questions players ask support: how long withdrawals take, which documents identity checks need, how to set a deposit limit, how to close an account. Good practice:
- Start from support tickets and help center searches, not from keyword lists.
- Answer in the first sentence, then add conditions.
- Keep answers specific to the market. Age limits, limit tools and self-exclusion schemes differ between Great Britain, Ontario, US states and Australia.
- Link to the full help article instead of repeating it.
- Date the page and review it when rules or payment methods change.
How SchemaReel uses FAQPage
Some SchemaReel pages end with a short set of questions, and those pages include FAQPage markup that matches the visible questions. We keep it because it describes the page accurately and costs nothing to maintain. We do not expect, and do not claim, any Google feature from it.
Questions
Will FAQPage markup hurt my site now?
Accurate FAQPage markup that matches visible questions is valid Schema.org. Google no longer shows the feature. Markup that describes content not on the page breaks Google's general guidelines.
Should I switch to QAPage instead?
Only if the page really is a question with answers submitted by users, such as a forum thread. QAPage describes a different kind of page and is not a replacement for FAQ snippets.
Did FAQ rich results ever work for gambling sites?
They did before August 2023. From then on Google showed them only for well-known, authoritative government and health websites.
